Questions.
- Is a remote notarization valid in Nigeria?
- Yes. Section 6 of the Notaries Public Act 2023 allows notarial acts by audio-visual means, including for people in another State or outside Nigeria. The certificate states how the act was done.
- What do I need?
- A phone or computer with a camera and microphone, a mobile number, your NIN and a photo ID or your passport, and your document as a PDF or a photo of each page.
- Can I move or cancel a session?
- Up to two hours before it starts, for a full refund. If your notary declines, you get a full refund. If your notary doesn’t come, or the session is interrupted, you choose a new time, free, or a full refund.
- Who can see my document?
- You and your notary. Legatee’s admins can open it only after recording a reason, and each opening is logged. The Chief Registrar receives the sealed document and the recording. [to confirm]
- I’m outside Nigeria. Can I use Legatee?
- Yes. Your notary confirms where you are on camera, and the certificate records it. You sign in with a Nigerian mobile number. [to confirm]
